Gustavo Dudamel is throwing a party, and everyone’s invited! As part of his final weekend of concerts as Music & Artistic Director of the LA Phil, he’ll join forces with the legendary norteño band Los Tigres del Norte, leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a set of songs by “Latin music’s greatest statesmen” (The New York Times). The last time Los Tigres played at the Bowl, for our celebration of Mexican independence in 2018, the Los Angeles Times called it “a jubilant moment of Mexican pride” and said, “the concert had the feel of a joyous family party.” What’s a party without a few more guests? Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lila Downs weaves her music from Mexican and Mesoamerican jazz, cumbia, and folk. Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, the first all-woman mariachi group, have been carving out a distinctly female path in a male-dominated musical landscape for over 30 years. With her background in classical music, jazz, and flamenco, Sílvia Pérez Cruz sings with a voice and expressive language all her own. Superstar cumbia group La Sonora Dinamita has been bringing the sounds of Colombia to the world for even longer, helping to make cumbia one of Latin music’s predominant styles. And Los Panchos, led by original member Gabi Vargas, kick things off with the romantic boleros that made them famous. It’s a big night in Hollywood Bowl history and a show like no other.
