A Concert for Venezuela

For his last concert at the Hollywood Bowl as Music & Artistic Director of the LA Phil, Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic, members of YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles), and very special guests in a night of inspiring music dedicated to relief efforts in response to the June 24, 2026, earthquakes in northern Venezuela. All donations raised by the concert will be directed to the United Nations Development Programme relief fund to support relief efforts, and to the El Sistema CAF Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean Fund—include the word “Sistema” in the payment reference—providing support to hundreds of El Sistema students, staff members, families, and facilities affected by the earthquakes. Anna Handler, a former Dudamel Fellow and incoming Conductor-in-Residence, returns to the Hollywood Bowl to unleash its liberating forces, pairing one of classical music’s most legendary statements with one of Beethoven’s rarely heard gems: the Triple Concerto. Acting Concertmaster Bing Wang, Principal Cello Robert deMaine, and keyboardist Joanne Pearce Martin—a triple threat that has spent a combined 71 years with the Los Angeles Philharmonic—come together for the composer’s merging of symphonic and chamber music. The program opens with a short, woodwind-rich piece by Grace-Evangeline Mason, an up-and-coming composer from the UK, that represents her impression of the moon as “a flower of gold hanging in a dark sky.”

Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto is one of classical music’s greatest comeback stories. Composed after a crippling period of depression and writer’s block, the piece overflows with Rachmaninoff’s hard-won confidence, victory, and profound lyricism. Pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason, hailing from one of Britain’s most musical families, makes her Hollywood Bowl and LA Phil debuts as she reprises her 2024 Classic FM Live performance of the much-loved concerto. Maestra Gemma New bookends the program with John Adams’ joyfully exuberant Short Ride in a Fast Machine and Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, which is not only his final composition, but one of his most frequently performed and adored tours de force. “I don't know how it happened. David Byrne: Who is the Sky?

Whether he’s playing an acoustic guitar on stage accompanied only by a tape machine, slow-dancing with a lamp to one of the sweetest songs of the 20th century, or disappearing into the marching band formations and dance moves of a large ensemble, David Byrne is always looking for one thing: human connection. As singer and leader of Talking Heads, Byrne wrote some of the most influential and deeply loved songs of the 1970s and 1980s—“Burning Down the House,” “Psycho Killer,” “Once in a Lifetime.” Couples have been saying “I do” to the tune of “This Must Be the Place (Naïve Melody)” for decades. And as is known by anyone who’s seen Jonathan Demme’s Talking Heads film Stop Making Sense or Spike Lee’s film of Byrne’s American Utopia Broadway show and tour, he brings the same level of delight and joy to his concerts that’s always been at the heart of his music. Following the release of 2025’s Who is the Sky?, Byrne and his 13-member ensemble mounted a brand-new stage production featuring highlights from his work with Talking Heads and Brian Eno, as well as songs from across his solo career. Variety called the tour “essential.” The Guardian said it will “restore your faith in humanity.” And after seeing it at the Bowl, you’ll almost certainly call it a night you’ll never forget.

For over 18 years, The Actors’ Gang has performed their Free Shakespeare in the Park for Families show in Culver City’s Media Park. For the first time, they are thrilled to bring their production to Burbank Public Library! Their 50-minute adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play “Two Gentlemen of Verona” will bring…love, laughter, and invaluable life lessons to anyone who attends. The play will include pop culture references, familiar characters, music, dance, and of course Shakespeare’s poetry.
*Please note, this performance has been moved from Lincoln Park indoors to the Buena Vista Branch Library Community Room.*
